About the event
December Luncheon Presentation: "Glenn Hwy/Knik River Bridge Preservation & Changeable Lanes"
Presented by: Joseph Taylor, PE, Vice President, Lounsbury & Associates, Inc. & David Gamez, PE, PTOE, Project Manager, Lounsbury & Associates, Inc.
What began as a routine bridge deck rehabilitation project quickly evolved into one of Alaska’s most unique opportunities to implement innovative traffic control strategies. In 2023, Lounsbury & Associates was hired by DOT&PF to deliver pavement preservation PS&E for the rehabilitation of the Glenn Highway Knik River bridges and the northbound Peters Creek bridge, one of Alaska’s busiest highway corridors. To avoid creating a “carmaggedon” during two full summers of construction, the project team evaluated multiple traffic control alternatives and ultimately selected a first-of-its-kind solution for Alaska: a moveable barrier system designed to minimize delay and keep the corridor moving safely throughout construction.
